Bringing down Bangkok posted Sunday, November 14, 2004 Since the full moon party I've, as always been on my ups and downs. I've noticed that I've done exceptionally well with Asian food in the other countries. The day I stepped into Thailand was the days of getting used to being gutted everyday. Thought maybe I caught something, but just settled back down to the idea Thai food goes through me like the cold November wind at home. I've been on a lot of long tedious bus journeys and arrived many times in towns that I was completely lost and on my own. The west coast of Thailand is in it's high season and I was shocked at the prices. I'm aware compared to Canada everything is still cheap here, but I just compare prices in their currency. I want as cheap as possible.
To answer a few questions. For no reason, I didn't stumble across the Intel factory in Malaysia. Rupiahs bills in Indonesia come in denominations as small as 1000. I've only seen as big as a 100,000 Rupiah bill. And last since I travel alone, most of my mind blowing camera shots are taken on my own, often using the popular timed photo.
I arrived in Krabbe, on the west coast. Not at all sure why. Because I never plan things, I just keep my ear open for what others are talking about. People spoke of Krabbe. I just didn't know why. So I went. Giant escarpments everywhere, some nice expensive islands and tourism central with prices out of my budget. Phuket was a long minibus away. Expensive but by this time I excepted that I wouldn't be able to escape high season, so I gave in to their prices and enjoyed myself, maybe too much. I ended up getting drunk alone, bar hopping trying to find new friends. Guess I made good friends with the tattoo/peircing artist because I woke up with 2 sore body parts and a headache. The best part is I'm not going to tell you what happened yet. It was kinda silly but it keeps you in suspense.
After trying to figure out what I was gonna do to entertain myself for the duration of my scheduled trip. I realized there's no reason to prolong my departure till the end of the month. I realized in Crabbe while staring in awe at the breathtaking escarpments, then looking down at the eye shielding white sandy beaches with crystal clear aqua colored water. The mountains around were pristine while the peaks look down to the multi colored fish swimming around the coral. I know that I still have to walk back to the town and smell the sewage while I watch the filthy ferrell cats and dogs walk on kitchen counters in restaurants around the corner from a pile of garbage that a screaming toddler has just fallen into. I've seen what I need to see of Asia right now. I've traveled more then most people can fathom in their lifetime. It's time for me to come home. So I tried to change my ticket a week ago. Then I took off to a deserted island without internet and didn't know that a new flight was found for me shortly after I escaped the big town noise. So I missed one flight. No good. But I'm in Bangkok now trying to get another flight asap to Vancouver. Surprise!
