All I see is the sun shining posted Wednesday, June 30, 2004 I successfully made it to Airlie Beach to reunite with old friends but most importantly to pick up a late birthday present from my wonderful sister Emerald.
After many more fun journeys on the road, for some reason it seemed I gave out good vibes to drivers. Being clean cut, clean shaven and a Canadian flag on my knapsack everyone from single women to a family with 2 children, had reassured feelings about pulling over. Once back in a familiar place my confidence returned. Knowing I could easily meet others since I could answer any questions about this simple drinking town, I mean sailing town. In my dorm room I met a Korean couple. Only knowing each other for a fortnight, for complicating reasons, one of them decided to get up and leave Airlie on the day of their prepaid 3 day sailing cruise was booked. With the other partner in a state of confusion and loneliness, I solved both problems at once. Over the period of the sailing cruise I presented my uplifting attitude better then the other boat mates. Since my trip was free, when one of the engines caught fire and the main sail had pieces break, I wasn’t bothered. When our main source of transport from the beach to the boat didn’t live up to it’s floating expectations, I was more then less impressed. It partially sank and we ended up having to wade back in waist deep water.
After the group celebrated that we made it back to mainland alive, I bumped into Kris, stricken with Cerebral palsy, doomed to the fanciest wheel chair I’ve seen. As it seems, Kris and his chaperon needed a few good men to carry him up the stairs to a nightclub. To help him fit in, after reaching the top, I offered to buy him a drink. Using his cap fitted with a laser pointer, he made it clear, shining the red dot over the appropriate words from the hundreds made available on his tray, that he wanted to buy me a drink. I then turned, introduced myself to the first female I saw. Let her know that I wanted her to meet my new friend. The chaperon let me know that he had no trouble meeting women. Whether it be because he was a good looking 25y/o with a average figure or because, impressively, he still had the energy to dance his wheelchair on the dance floor using his chin controlled remote, I wasn’t sure. Either way I felt this was an experience worth sharing.

emmy poo - 7/5/2004 I'm glad you enjoyed your gift, I didn't want to send you something that would be bulky, this way you can put it on your key change, and you'll never have to wory about wheres that pen again.....sorry it didn't come with instructions......oops...heheh......
Chris - 7/4/2004 Don't listen to mom, I remember you loving sailing. You just liked the motorized boat because it went faster than the sailboats. So the engines caught fire on the boat eh? Maybe that guy was a saboteur. Heh, I like the specials they give Canadians on Canada day, but looks like they jack the price up on beer. $7!?! I hope that's for a pitcher, some wings and a back rub!
Mumsy - 7/4/2004 Wow.... would you like your hockey skates sent to you? Do you have pangs of envy that you can only watch, or have you found a pair to fit you? Love your birthday present, she was lucky to catch up with you. You know I find it so interesting that you are sailing and seemingly enjoying it somewhat considering that when you were young, sailing was just not your cup of tea. Matter of fact I remember you running the motor rescue boat versus taking the sailing lessons, the second year lol. But I am happy to see you are enjoying that part of boating now, as I have not sailed for the last couple of years. I just might have to come to Australia to get the next opportunity to sail... Hugs to you dear. Enjoy your pictures and stories. Mom
