Tis' about time! posted Saturday, January 24, 2004 Strangely i'm writing this insert while listening to the radio. Both from the same pen. A radio pen.
Yesterday I attended a very prestigious Wine and Cheese party the hostel hosted. Free boxed wine and snacks. I took advantage of that. They sold raffle tickets, and I bought one. I've never been lucky with winning things. I seems to be doing alright this trip though. I won 2nd prize. 3 Jugs of beer from a local pub and a free nights stay from the hostel.
This is a big weekend for me. Took a 2 hour train out to the Blue Mountains. Lots of walking around the park. They're not really blue or mountains at all. Really giant canyons, always with a little bit of fog in front. First day was nice, until it poured rain. But once you're wet you're wet. So I did a rain dance for Aussie sake. The second day was raining and with fog so think I was scared to cross the road in fear I'd become a hood ordament. So the view was no more, but we made it to the bottom of the canyon and learnt a lot about strange trees, thick vines, like the ones Tarzan used and saw tons of noisy birds. We stayed at a caravan park. That's what they call and campgrounds. First time a got to use my tent. Not quite the same experience as Canada tenting. They charge per person and pretty much told us to find a ditch to setup. Not glamorous at all. We're setup about 10feet from the paved road and 5 feet from our neighbors. No fire pit or separate sites at all. Not the same without a glowing fire coming from each site.
But all in all, of course it was a lot of fun, bought my first cheap box of wine. $12 for 4.4L of wine. Lasted 2 night with 2 people. Went well with the beans we cooked on my cooker. I can see why it's the backpackers fav drink.
